A team of researchers equipped 70 operators with PrimeSense 3D scanners to create a huge set of 3D datasets.
The operators weren’t told what to scan so the database contains a wide spectrum of objects. The operators scanned more than 10.000 different objects. From the analysis of the 3D scans one thing is very clear – people love cars. As the following graph shows, 3D scans of cars rank first with more than double the scans of the second most scanned object, chairs.
You can find the paper from Sungjoon Choi, Qian-Yi Zhou, Stephen Miller and Vladlen Koltun here and all the 3D scans here.
