The Inside 3D Printing will take place for the second time in Berlin on 3-4 March 2015. More than 1,100 experts, scientists, service providers, manufacturers, traders, investors and specialists from different sectors gathered this year in order to learn more about the professional use of 3D printing and to network with peers. International and national industry experts and representatives from leading companies will also present at next year’s conference which is expanding from two to three tracks.
After huge interest in the event this year the exhibition area will double in size. A key focus of Inside 3D Printing Berlin will be the application of 3D printing in the automotive and the aerospace sectors.
Conference Chair Dr. Eric Klemp, Business Director of the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) at the University of Paderborn, designed a programme consisting of successful use-cases, industrial applications and research findings. Speakers include U.S. 3D printing expert Terry Wohlers, Dr. Claus Emmelmann, Head of the Institute of Laser and System Technologies at Hamburg University of Technology and CEO of Laser Zentrum Nord, as well as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz-Josef Villmer, Professor for Product Development and Engineering at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences. Companies include Airbus, BEGO, Boeing, Airbus Defence & Space, DMG, EDAG, EOS, Fraunhofer, HP, Materialise, Phoenix Contact, SLM and Stratasys.
„In Aerospace errors are not an option“
Dr. Eric Klemp is looking forward to the special use-cases from the aerospace sector: “In aerospace errors are not an option. The aerospace industry shows how to make 3D printing projects fly, in the true sense of the word. In addition, the sector has special needs in light-weight design and is already a pioneer in additive mass production. All industries can benefit from this experience.” Another topic will be new technologies for additive manufacturing with different materials, such as metals, plastics and ceramic, as well as the topic of bionic design.
Inside 3D Printing was launched by Mecklermedia and Rising Media in order to serve as a forum for professional exchange and attracted over 3,000 visitors to the first show in New York in 2013. The conference presents business opportunities, use-cases and the current research status of the technology. Whereas additive manufacturing has been used in prototyping for over 25 years, the application is still at its beginning for industrial mass production. The challenges in the market include the preparation of complete process chains and legal questions such as copyright and warranty.
