Did You Know That Deadpools Mask Is Partly 3D Printed?

Marvel´s Deadpool is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

With more than 745$ million in worldwide sales Deadpool was able to break the 13 year old record of The Matrix Reloaded. Now a behind the scenes video shows how the mask of the cheeky superhero is made – and of course 3D scanning and 3D printing plays a role in this process.

In the Behind the Scenes video the designers and creators show us how the mask of Ryan Reynolds was made. First a digital model of Reynolds head was made using 3D scanning. This model was 3D printed to sculpt the final design.

The final design was then built by the studio out of different materials. To make the mask more comfortable to wear the team made different eyepieces using 3D printing. The variations  of the eyepieces gave the actor a more comfortable feeling for different scenes. The video shows that there were at least three different ones. The standard model, one with more breathability and one with a wider field of view for stunts are shown below:
