The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is taking part in Formnext for the first time this year and will be presenting the latest research results on additive manufacturing at stand F51 in hall 11 from November 19 to 22. The focus is on innovative approaches in the processing of metals, polymers and glass, which open up new possibilities for industrial applications.
In the field of powder-bed-based manufacturing, the LZH will be showcasing developments with special materials such as magnesium, brass and niobium. These materials are ideal for applications that place high demands on biocompatibility, thermal conductivity or strength. Among other things, components designed for more efficient hydrogen combustion will be on display. Another highlight is research into additive manufacturing in space, for use on the moon, for example.
Wire-based deposition welding is another focal point. With a specially developed laser processing head, large-format components can be manufactured efficiently and precisely. The technology also enables multi-material components in which cost-effective base materials are combined with wear-resistant coatings.
In the field of polymer processing, the LZH will be demonstrating how additive manufacturing offers cost-efficient solutions in medical technology and other industries. Among the products on show will be a seat shell for children with physical disabilities and a system used in research projects to defuse unexploded ordnance.
In glass processing, the LZH is expanding the possibilities through the use of additive methods. The aim is to produce dense glass components with smooth surfaces that can be used, for example, in optics, medical technology or structural glass construction.
