Legal dispute between Desktop Metal and Nano Dimension: court sets trial date

The legal dispute between Desktop Metal and Nano Dimension is entering the next round. The Chancery Court in Delaware has scheduled the trial dates in the ongoing proceedings for March 11 and 12, 2025. The case concerns a lawsuit filed by Desktop Metal against Nano Dimension in connection with the merger of the two companies, which was agreed in July 2024 but not completed.

The court already decided to accelerate the negotiations in December 2024. Desktop Metal argues that a swift resolution of the contractual disputes is necessary to minimize potential economic damage. The company emphasizes that it will continue to protect its contractual rights while maintaining its business operations.

Desktop Metal is a provider of additive manufacturing technology with a focus on binder jetting and digital light processing (DLP). Nano Dimension, on the other hand, specializes in additively manufactured electronics and offers 3D printing solutions for printed circuit boards, among other things. The company is pursuing an expansion strategy through acquisitions and has already attempted to acquire Desktop Metal on several occasions. However, negotiations on the merger were interrupted in 2024, whereupon Desktop Metal took legal action.

The court’s decision could have an impact on future consolidation in the 3D printing industry. Particularly in the field of industrial additive manufacturing, there is an increasing number of strategic mergers in order to exploit economies of scale and drive technological development forward.
