Maker presents 3D-printed cylinder lock model

A 3D model of a cylinder lock available on the Printables platform offers interested parties the opportunity to reproduce the internal structure of such a lock in detail. The model was created by the maker horin Oakenshield and can be downloaded free of charge. The scale of around 2.4:1 makes the functionality clearly visible and facilitates understanding of the individual components.

The printed lock measures approximately 160 x 75 x 41 millimetres (without base) and is assembled from several parts. In addition to 3D model files, the digital files also include assembly instructions. There are also G-code examples that already take into account the print settings for certain components.

Common standard parts such as ten 7 x 35 millimeter springs and a few screws (M3x10mm and M4x15mm) are required for correct assembly. These components stabilize the moving elements. Another tip from the creator is to fix the lock housing slightly when removing the key so that the parts do not jam.

The model is suitable as a study object for anyone who wants to better understand the internal processes of a cylinder lock. In contrast to the real hardware, the enlarged representation allows individual pins, springs and the locking mechanism to be understood in detail. This can be useful, for example, for those interested in craftsmanship, technical learning projects or training purposes. All files and further details can be downloaded free of charge from Printables.
