The 3D printing community thrives on openness and the free exchange of creative designs. Many designers and artists share their models for free, but more and more of them are looking for ways to use their work commercially. MakerWorld, Bambu Lab’s 3D model platform, is responding with a new feature: commercial license membership.
With this feature, creators can license their designs for commercial use. At the same time, the platform remains accessible for private use free of charge and without login.
To ensure that only established designers offer commercial licenses, a number of access requirements apply. An account must have at least 200 followers and 600 printed models, with no rule violations in the last 90 days. Experienced designers from other platforms can apply for an invitation.
The prices for memberships are set by the designers themselves. They vary between 3 and 300 US dollars per month. MakerWorld charges a platform fee of 10%, plus any fees charged by the payment provider PayPal, which is currently the only payment option.
