Belgian 3D printing specialist Materialise has published its financial figures for the first quarter of 2025. Despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and a difficult economic situation overall, the company was able to increase its turnover by 4.3% to 66.38 million euros. The medical 3D printing segment performed particularly strongly, while software and manufacturing were under pressure.
Compared to the same period last year, the medical division increased by 18.7% to 31.08 million euros. The segment achieved an adjusted EBITDA margin of 29.1% and thus remains the most profitable business segment. By contrast, revenue in the manufacturing division fell by 5.5% and EBITDA slipped into negative territory. The software division also had to deal with a 6.4% drop in turnover and a significant fall in margins.
The Group generated an operating profit of EUR 574,000, well below the previous year’s figure of EUR 2.59 million. At minus 535,000 euros, the net result was negative for the first time in several quarters. Among other things, this was due to unfavorable exchange rate developments and increased expenses in the areas of research, marketing and administration.
Nevertheless, Materialise was able to strengthen its liquidity. The net cash position rose by 6.7 million euros to 67.74 million euros, driven by a positive operating cash flow. The company announced its intention to continue investing in sustainable technologies in a targeted manner. In its sustainability report published at the beginning of April, Materialise emphasized the potential of additive manufacturing for environmentally friendly and resource-saving applications, particularly in the healthcare sector.
For the full year 2025, the company expects sales of between EUR 270 and 285 million and an Adjusted EBIT of between EUR 6 and 10 million. Materialise believes it is strategically well positioned despite market fluctuations, but points to possible negative effects in the second quarter.
