Materialise: Slight increase in total sales in 2024

The Belgian company Materialise has published its financial results for the fourth quarter and the full year 2024. While total sales rose by 4.2% to €266.8 million, the performance of the individual business units remained mixed. The Materialise Medical segment was particularly strong, growing by 14.8%. In contrast, the Software and Manufacturing segments recorded declines or only slight progress.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the company increased its turnover by 0.6% to EUR 65.7 million. However, adjusted EBIT was negative at -1.2 million euros, compared to 3.2 million euros in the same period of the previous year. Net profit nevertheless amounted to 2.9 million euros, which was primarily boosted by positive currency effects.

The Materialise Medical segment proved to be the main growth driver. Sales here rose to EUR 116.4 million, driven by high demand for patient-specific implants and surgical planning software solutions. The segment’s adjusted EBITDA rose by 34% to 35.6 million euros, which pushed the margin up to 30.6%.

The software business remained stable, but was unable to match previous growth rates. Annual sales fell slightly to 43.9 million euros, while adjusted EBITDA was down on the previous year at 5.6 million euros. Materialise is continuing to drive forward the transition to a subscription model, which is slowing growth in the short term but should ensure more stable income in the long term.

The manufacturing segment performed particularly weakly. Turnover fell by 3.4% to 106.5 million euros. The segment recorded a sharp decline in EBITDA, which fell from 7.5 million euros to 1.7 million euros. Macroeconomic uncertainties and subdued demand in the European industry in particular had a negative impact here.

Materialise expects further growth in 2025, particularly in the medical segment. Total sales are expected to increase to between 270 and 285 million euros. While the software division continues to switch to a subscription-based business model, the manufacturing division continues to face challenges.
