Modix introducing a new line of printers and other innovations at Rapid-TCT Trade Show

3D printer manufacturer Modix, which specializes in large-format systems, will unveil a new printer series called “CORE” at the upcoming TCT show in Chicago, among other products.

Modix will introduce a prototype of its new printer named Modix CORE-60, at the Rapid USA trade show. This printer is the first of a new line of products designed to meet the needs of low-budget customers, such as artists and young start-ups. The printer’s smart design results in affordable offering without compromising on quality. The Modix CORE-60 is expected to be available towards the third quarter of this year. The printer which features a generous print volume of 600 X 600 X 600 mm, is expected to be offered at $3,500 USD for the bare machine.

The current Modix offering at that size, Modix BIG-60, is currently offered at a starting price point of 4,900 USD and it is designed for industrial applications and advanced printing thanks to the IDEX technology and the more robust motion system and frame. Artists, designers, and young startups may benefit from the more affordable yet high quality Modix CORE-60. There will be several add-ons to be later offered to this new printer including enclosure, upgraded motion rails, air filter and more.

The new smart CORE-60 design

• Core XY kinematics – One less motor and lightweight gantry in compared to cartesian designs.
• CAN bus – Digital communication to print head controller eliminates expensive and heavy wires.
• Input shaper – Print quality improves as vibrations are minimized by utilizing an accelerometer.
• A lightweight yet powerful extruder will further reduce vibrations & improve print quality.
• Smaller printer exterior dimensions – Result in lower shipping costs.
• V-wheels –Polycarbonate wheels as a default motion system. HiWin rails offered as an upgrade.

New Add-ons for the “Big” line of printers

• Closed-loop motion system will prevent layer shifts and allow higher printing speed.
• Input Shaper – Accelerometer on the print head reduces vibrations and improves print quality.
• Griffin XL print head – Print faster by depositing more than 0.5 KG per hour.
• Remote control including a workstation and a set of cameras for remote monitoring & control.
• “Spaghetti detector” software prevents print head damage and reduces filament waste by detecting mid-air printing which happens when objects are detached from the print bed.
• Filament dryer device that can dry 2 spools of 5KG each or 1 spool of 8KG.
