Startup Mulitiply Labs wants to change the way people take supplements by providing a single personalised pill that releases different vitamins, minerals and other ingredients throughout the day.
This will allow people to select the types of supplements they need, which are then combined in a single, time-released pill. Multiply Labs creates the capsule using a patented 3D printing technology. The shell is made of different FDA-approved pharmaceutical polymers and has different compartments of varying thickness. This structure allows for different supplements to be released at certain times. So instead of taking a number of pills throughout the day, you can take just one that releases its customised ingredients over time. Moreover, you can also determine the exact amount of the vitamin or mineral you need. Multiply Labs also explains that they can reduce the size because inside the capsule they only use pure elements and no additives.
This technology could be used for other medication in future, but for now the startup is just in the process of commercialising the supplement pill. While it is already possible to pre-order the pills through their website, Multiply Labs plans to send out their first products in early 2017.
