New scanning systems for 3D printing: SCANLAB presents further developments at Laser World of Photonics

Picture: SCANLAB

At this year’s Laser World of Photonics in Munich, SCANLAB GmbH is presenting a series of technical innovations that are specifically tailored to industrial applications in the field of laser material processing and additive manufacturing. The focus will be on the extended scan heads of the intelliSCAN IV family and the new SCANcube IV 7 model, which will be demonstrated in a synchronized multi-head setup.

With the intelliSCAN IV 10, SCANLAB is launching a particularly compact high-performance scanner with a 10 mm aperture. It is designed for precise micro material processing and, with the SCANahead control, achieves writing speeds of around 1,310 characters per second (cps) while maintaining high quality. With a lens with a focal length of 160 mm, this corresponds to a path speed of up to 57.6 m/s. The control system enables dynamic path tracking, which reduces processing times in many applications.

The intelliSCANse IV 30 has been equipped with digital encoders for use in 3D printing. These increase long-term stability and precision, which is particularly advantageous for demanding additive manufacturing processes. The IP66 protection class and integrated water cooling enable use in harsh industrial environments. The devices in the series are also compatible with the SCANmotionControl framework, which enables coordinated path planning between the scanner and processing system.

Another trade fair highlight is the live demonstration of the SCANcube IV 7 in a network of six synchronized heads. It is controlled via RTC6 boards, enabling precise parallel processes at write speeds of up to 1,840 cps – ideal for serial marking applications.

In addition to the hardware innovations, SCANLAB will be presenting an interactive innovation board for the first time. Here, trade visitors can talk directly to product developers about new concepts such as modular welding scanners or adaptive alignment processes. The developments presented will provide insights into SCANLAB’s strategies for further optimizing laser-based manufacturing technologies.
