Nikon SLM Solutions presented its redesigned SLM280, SLM280 Production Series and SLM500 machines at Formnext 2024. The technical innovations of these models for metal 3D printing increase productivity and reliability. For the first time, the company is guaranteeing machine availability of at least 85%, with the aim of exceeding 90%.
The updated machines are characterized by a modern design and improved components. New features include powerful 700 watt lasers, a Permanent Filter Module (PFM) and optimized recoater brushes. These features are designed not only to increase operational reliability, but also to minimize maintenance costs. The SLM500 is also supplied with additional build cylinders to ensure uninterrupted production.
With the new “Picture Perfect Pro Plan”, Nikon is expanding its range to include a comprehensive service package. It is aimed at both new customers and existing users who are upgrading their machines or renewing service contracts. This package ensures the guaranteed availability of the machines for five years and includes, among other things, a continuous software supply with SLM.Link, SLM.Quality and Free Float. In addition, the plan includes a customized powder supply contract that prevents production interruptions.
The availability guarantee marks an important step in the industry, as Nikon SLM Solutions is the first manufacturer to offer such an assurance for medium and large machines such as the SLM280 and SLM500. According to the company, customers in various industries are already achieving an average of over 90% uptime with these systems.
