Optomec CEO Dave Ramahi passed away unexpectedly

U.S. 3D printer manufacturer Optomec announced that the company’s president and chief executive officer, Dave Ramahi, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Board of Directors has appointed Mike Barry to the role of Interim President and CEO. Barry previously served as Optomec’s Vice President of Corporate Development and has been a member of Optomec’s Board of Directors for many years. Barry has 30 years’ experience in senior executive positions at a number of rapid growth high-tech companies, including his role as founder and CEO of a successful software start-up, Rosetta Technologies. With Barry’s in-depth knowledge of Optomec’s customers, operations, employees and culture, he is particularly well-suited to carry on Dave Ramahi’s vision of bringing Additive Manufacturing to the production floor.

Dave Ramahi joined Optomec in 2002 after successful leadership positions in the computer graphics industry. Under his leadership as CEO, Optomec transitioned from start-up mode, to sustained growth, to profitability to ultimately achieving Ramahi’s vision: becoming one of the few Additive Manufacturing companies that derives the majority of its revenue from production applications. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.).
