Phase3D introduces Fringe Qualification for real-time quality control on a large scale

Phase3D, a company for in-situ inspection technologies in additive manufacturing, has presented Fringe Qualification, a new tool for real-time quality control. This system enables manufacturers to monitor and certify the production process of AM (additive manufacturing) components through a layer-by-layer inspection in real time. The solution is particularly aimed at industries such as aerospace, medical and defense, where the consistency and quality of components are critical.

Fringe Qualification integrates seamlessly with Phase3D’s existing Fringe Operator software, enabling centralized monitoring across an entire fleet of machines. Automated inspection of each shift immediately identifies potential deviations, reducing costly rework and shortening production times.

“With Fringe Qualification, we’re transforming how manufacturers approach quality control in additive manufacturing,” says Niall O’Dowd, Founder and CEO of Phase3D. “Our customers can now certify builds layer-by-layer, reducing post-processing costs and enabling faster delivery of critical parts.”

A central feature of the system is the structured light projection, which creates micrometer-accurate height maps of each layer and thus offers high precision in surface measurement. This metrology method provides objective, measurable data that delivers reliable results independent of algorithms or machine learning.

“Fringe Qualification represents the next evolution in additive manufacturing quality control,” says Ben Ferrar, COO & Chair of the Board at Phase3D. “By enabling real-time production control across multiple machines, we’re empowering manufacturers to achieve consistent quality, every time.”

With detailed reports and real-time notifications, Fringe Qualification provides a comprehensive solution for the certification of additively manufactured parts and covers the stringent quality requirements in critical industries. Interested parties can experience Fringe Qualification at Formnext 2024 at stand E58 in hall 11.0 and find out about the possible applications in their production.
