The large research project by the Swedish Lund University created a digital tour through the ancient town of Pompeii.
Pompeii had a striving culture before it was completely destroyed by the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Most of the towns buildings stayed intact because the city was buried under a layer of dust from the eruption.
The researchers used laser 3D scanners by Faro to digitalise a larger part of the town. The data was merged and polished. The digital renovation now shows the inside of the buildings and how it might have looked before Mount Vesuvius erupted?
The team of researchers released a paper of how and why the digital reconstruction was done. You can also take a look at the 3D data yourself over at the projects homepage.
