The latest version of the 3D printing slicer PrusaSlicer, 2.9.0, offers numerous new features and improvements that will benefit both beginners and experienced users. Highlights include the ability to manage multiple print beds in one project, improved stitching options and new surface editing tools.
With the new print bed function, users can use up to nine beds simultaneously in one scene. This function is particularly suitable for large projects that do not fit on a single print bed. The Arrange tool automatically distributes objects to the available beds. Users can also drag and drop objects to automatically add new beds as required. The print beds can be sliced individually or together, and the G-codes can be exported collectively.
Another feature is the introduction of “Scarf Seams”, a method to reduce visible seams on smooth surfaces. This technique overlaps the start and end points of the perimeters and reduces the visibility of the seams. The idea, inspired by wood joints, was introduced by the community and integrated into PrusaSlicer.
The integration of Printables, a platform for 3D models, facilitates access to print templates directly in the user interface. Users can browse models and load them onto the printing plate with a single click.
With the new fuzzy skin painting tool, users can add a textured surface to specific areas of a model without having to use additional modifiers. This tool offers different brush types and intuitive user guidance.
For multi-tool printers such as the Original Prusa XL, there is experimental support for printing with different nozzle diameters. This allows you to print intricate details with smaller nozzles while using larger nozzles for fast filling.
