From May 13 to 15, 2025, Rapid.Tech 3D in Erfurt will once again serve as a platform for current developments in additive manufacturing. This year, the Science Forum places a stronger emphasis on researchers working on new methods, materials, and applications in industrial 3D printing. Out of 35 submitted papers, eight were selected for oral presentations, while an additional fifteen will be featured in a dedicated poster session.
“We aim to increase the visibility of the scientific community at Rapid.Tech 3D,” says Dr. Stefan Kleszczynski, interim head of the Chair of Manufacturing Technology at the Institute for Product Engineering, University of Duisburg-Essen, and member of the Rapid.Tech 3D advisory board. “Last year, we introduced the poster session alongside the Science Forum and presented selected contributions there. We’re continuing that in 2025 to give 15 more applicants the opportunity to present their research. In an informal setting, they can share their work, engage with visitors, speakers, and exhibitors, and build professional networks.”
The goal is to bridge the gap between basic research and industrial relevance. The forum’s international reach is supported through ongoing publication partnerships with journals such as Progress in Additive Manufacturing.
Topics range from additive manufacturing of wear-resistant tool components using tungsten carbide-nickel composites to multimaterial integration in antenna structures for particle accelerators. Also noteworthy is a data-driven certification approach for aircraft components based on machine learning, developed at TU Dresden.
New polymer-based materials are another focus, including the use of polybutylene terephthalate and flame-retardant modifications of polyamide 12 for laser powder bed fusion. Advances in sinter-based printing and material extrusion are also being presented, aiming to improve part quality and economic viability.
Complementing the conference program are exchange formats like technical deep dives, expert tables, and a poster area in the exhibition hall. Additionally, the newly introduced Quantum Photonics event, held in parallel, offers fresh synergies between additive manufacturing and quantum technologies.
