Relaunch of the 3D model platform Thingiverse from UltiMaker

UltiMakers Thingiverse, one of the best-known platforms for freely accessible 3D printed models, has recently received an extensive visual and functional update. The aim is to improve the user experience and bring the platform up to date in terms of technology and design. The focus is on a modernized user interface, supplemented by targeted functional enhancements.

The visual overhaul includes new colors, a revised logo and an overall clearer design. The operators emphasize that these changes are not just cosmetic. Rather, they form the basis for further adjustments that are already in progress. At the same time, a new brand identity has been introduced that emphasizes concepts such as accessibility, transparency and user orientation.

One of the practical innovations is the revised search function. This now supports operators such as quotation marks for exact hits or the minus sign to exclude certain terms. Fuzzy logic also ensures better results in the event of typing errors. Automatic search suggestions and an updated filter system complete the new search function.

Another new feature is the integration with common slicer programs. Users can open compatible models directly from Thingiverse in Cura, Orca Slicer or PrusaSlicer without having to download the file manually. This saves time and simplifies the workflow.

Thingiverse has also revised the handling of AI-generated content. New labels show whether a model was created entirely or partially with the help of artificial intelligence. Users can specify in their profile whether they want to see or hide such content. A reporting system for inadequately labeled files has also been implemented.

With this step, Thingiverse is responding to the increased competition from portals such as Printables and MakerWorld.
