British manufacturer Renishaw presented its latest machine in the RenAM 500 series for metal additive manufacturing at Formnext: RenAM 500D. This dual-laser variant offers additive manufacturing (AM) users flexibility, productivity and cost-efficiency, lowering the barrier to entry for high-productivity metal AM.
The RenAM 500D is equipped with two 500-watt lasers that can cover the entire build platform. Compared to single-laser systems, this offers a significant increase in production speed and throughput. According to Renishaw, the Ultra version of the system, equipped with TEMPUS technology, enables additional time savings: the laser can work while the coater is moving, saving up to nine seconds per shift. This results in a production speed that is up to three times faster than conventional single-laser systems.
“The new dual laser system enhances the current RenAM 500 portfolio, providing exceptional productivity at a competitive cost,” explained Louise Callanan, Director of Additive Manufacturing at Renishaw. “By making high-quality AM systems more productive than ever, we aim to lower the entry barrier to this advanced technology and encourage wider adoption across different industries.”
In addition to speed and efficiency, the RenAM 500D also scores with its integration into existing workflows. Compatibility with Renishaw’s software solutions, such as Renishaw Central and QuantAM, enables seamless implementation without interrupting production. For companies previously using single-laser systems, the RenAM 500D offers an opportunity to significantly expand production capacity without increasing factory space.
With the introduction of the RenAM 500D, Renishaw is expanding the RenAM 500 series, which is suitable for both prototyping and series production. All machines in this range feature powerful lasers, intelligent gas management for high part quality and customizable powder handling. The RenAM 500D shows how additive manufacturing can be further professionalized and made more accessible.
