3D scanner manufacturer Revopoint has unveiled the MetroX, a new device for professional users. The current Kickstarter campaign is showing great interest: Over 2000 supporters have already contributed more than 1.6 million US dollars.
The MetroX combines laser and structured light technology for precise scans of various surfaces. With an accuracy of up to 0.03 mm and a resolution of up to 0.01 mm, it is suitable for demanding applications in industry and product development.
The device offers four scanning modes: two laser modes with crossed or parallel lines and two structured light modes. In cross mode, 14 laser lines are projected, which is particularly advantageous for shiny or dark surfaces. The parallel mode with seven lines is suitable for fine details.
The structured light modes include a full-field mode with 62 lines and an automatic turntable mode. The latter uses a supplied two-axis turntable for automated scanning without markings.
The MetroX can capture objects from 10 x 10 x 10 mm up to one cubic meter. The working range is between 200 and 400 mm. A quad-core ARM processor with 2.0 GHz processes the data. Both the depth camera and the RGB camera for color images have a resolution of 2 megapixels.
The RevoScan 5 software supplied supports the entire scanning workflow and enables export to common 3D formats. The data can be seamlessly imported into CAD software such as Quicksurface or Geomagic.
The MetroX is currently available on Kickstarter for early bird backers from 669 US dollars, a discount of 33% compared to the planned retail price of 999 US dollars. Delivery will start in December 2024.
