Security Experts Warn Of 3D Printed Security Seals To Mask Cargo Thefts

Experts from G4S warn of fake 3D printed security seals to disguise cargo theft.

As we have seen 3D printed TSA luggage keys and 3D printed high security keys to fight against the illegal copy of keys using 3D scanning and 3D printing. 3D printing is a topic for the security industry. A recent case of cargo theft shows how creative thieves can get.

Cargo containers are usually sealed by a coded high security seal. These plastic were counterfeited to mask the containers as secure. The thieves used 3D printers to produce a copy of the security seals. So officials weren’t able to pin the exact point in time of the theft.

“For a few hundred dollars, a person can purchase a 3D scanner that eliminates the need to understand computer-aided design and can not only provide the dimensions for any item but also creates the CAD technical specifications needed to produce a near-perfect replica,” notes G4S.
