Shapeways expands 3D printing services to include FDM process

The Dutch company Shapeways has expanded its portfolio of additive manufacturing technologies to include fused deposition modeling (FDM). The service provider now offers a total of eight different 3D printing processes. According to Shapeways, FDM is one of the technologies most frequently requested by customers. The process is now available via the company’s online quotation tool.

Shapeways is launching the FDM service with five materials: ABS, ASA, polycarbonate, PET and PETG. These are intended to be suitable for both mechanically resilient and weather-resistant applications. Shapeways COO Jules Witte emphasized that the integration of FDM expands the service offering to serve a wider range of manufacturing needs. The introduction follows a test phase in which the process was tested for quality and process reliability.

The company made a fresh start last year following financial difficulties in the USA.
