Eldritch Foundry, a U.S.-based company, blends the creative freedom of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) with the precision of modern 3D printing, offering players the ability to bring their characters to life as physical miniatures. Through an interactive browser-based design tool, users can craft figures that reflect everything from detailed facial features to customized gear and poses—without needing 3D modeling experience.
What sets the company apart is its focus on individuality: each miniature is processed and printed as a one-off item using high-resolution resin printers. This approach prioritizes character specificity over mass production, and while it introduces certain logistical complexities, it aligns closely with the narrative depth many players bring to the table.
Beyond traditional printing, Eldritch Foundry has expanded its offering to include downloadable STL files for those with access to home 3D printers. More recently, the company has also started working with full-color printing technologies, lowering the barrier for users who prefer ready-to-play models without the need for manual painting.
As digital design tools become more accessible and desktop printers more capable, Eldritch Foundry continues to explore how additive manufacturing can enhance player immersion—making miniature creation a more integrated part of the storytelling experience.
Interview with Eldritch Foundry
In this interview with 3Druck.com, Eldritch Foundry’s Marketing Manager Amy Lowe and CEO Matan Gilat discuss how 3D printing is shaping the future of custom miniatures for tabletop gaming. They share insights into evolving user expectations, technical and logistical aspects of production, and the impact of new technologies on the design and manufacturing process.
How has the demand for highly customized 3D-printed miniatures evolved among tabletop RPG players and collectors over the past few years, and what trends have you observed in user preferences or expectations?
Over the past several years, we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for highly customized miniatures, particularly from TTRPG players who view their characters as personal storytelling tools. Customization is no longer just about swapping weapons or armor; it’s shifted to reflect a player’s unique identity and backstory. Representation has become a top priority, with users actively seeking options that reflect diverse body types, gender expressions, disabilities, and cultural aesthetics.
For many of our customers, the miniature is as much a part of campaign preparation as character sheets are.
Recent advancements in 3D printing have opened new creative possibilities. Which innovations have had the greatest impact on Eldritch Foundry’s capabilities and product offerings?
The biggest advancements impacting our work have come from high-resolution resin printing and rendering. The fidelity we can now achieve with small-scale details like facial expressions and elements allows us to offer a premium product.

Equally important is our proprietary rendering engine, which has redefined the user experience in miniature design. It enables real-time, ultra-detailed customization directly in the browser, removing technical barriers and empowering users at any skill level. These tools allow us to bring artistic intent and technical precision together.
What are the main technical or logistical challenges you face when scaling up 3D printing production for a high volume of unique, made-to-order miniatures?
Our core value proposition of mass customization presents unique production challenges. Each miniature is one of a kind, which means we can’t rely on economies of scale in the traditional sense. Every order requires its own print file preparation, inspection, and quality control workflow.
Logistically, ensuring fast global delivery of highly detailed, fragile prints is an ongoing challenge. We’ve invested in packaging design, fulfillment systems, and quality assurance protocols to maintain consistency at scale while still preserving the artistic integrity of each piece.
Looking ahead, how do you see developments in consumer-grade 3D printing and digital design tools influencing the future of the custom miniatures market?
We expect the market to continue evolving toward greater accessibility and user empowerment. As consumer-grade 3D printers improve, more players will explore printing at home. However, the demand for premium-quality assets and seamless user experiences will still position providers like Eldritch Foundry as partners in the creative process.
Another shift we see is in digital creation. Tools that used to require specialized knowledge are now widely accessible, allowing TTRPG players to engage more with the storytelling aspects of design. Our goal is to remain at the forefront of this technology by offering professional-quality products while keeping customization intuitive and accessible.
More recently, advancements in full-color 3D printing have opened up new creative possibilities and brought a whole new segment of users into the fold, especially those who are intimidated by traditional painting. It’s a major step forward and helps us better serve the full spectrum of TTRPG players.
