Siemens presents digital solutions for sustainable additive manufacturing at Formnext 2024

Under the motto “Let’s advance Manufacturing”, Siemens will be demonstrating at Formnext 2024 how digital technologies and a strong partner ecosystem can further industrialize additive manufacturing (AM). By combining automation, digitalization and partnerships, Siemens is positioning itself as a driving force for the integration of additive processes into established production environments. With new offerings on the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace, the company is expanding its platform with innovative technologies designed to make production processes more efficient and sustainable.

A key highlight is the collaboration with LEAM Technologies and CEAD, which enable large-format additive manufacturing with light-based welding technology. This technology improves the mechanical properties of components and is particularly suitable for demanding industries such as aerospace. This is complemented by a real-time temperature monitoring system that significantly improves quality assurance in production.

With CALYPSO and GEMINI, VLM Robotics is introducing flexible robot solutions for XXL components to the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace. The hybrid machines combine additive manufacturing with CNC technologies and enable end-to-end digital twins to optimize manufacturing processes. This approach not only improves precision and quality, but also reduces the complexity of integration into existing production environments.

Siemens also emphasizes the role of additive manufacturing in the circular economy. AI-supported design processes and the industrial metaverse can be used to develop products that are recyclable and save resources. Projects such as Haddy show how local microfactories and sustainable materials can transform furniture production. The introduction of RFID-based traceability systems supports a closed material cycle strategy.

With Stratasys as a new partner, the AM I Navigator, a framework for the evaluation and further development of additive manufacturing, will also be expanded. At Formnext, Siemens will be demonstrating how digital innovations and partnerships are paving the way for sustainable production and accelerating the integration of AM into industrial applications.
