SiNAPTIC Technologies receives funding for additive manufacturing technology for ceramics

SiNAPTIC Technologies, a contract manufacturer dedicated to the development and on-demand manufacturing of additively manufactured technical ceramics, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant from the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) Advanced Industries Accelerator Program.

The Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant supports companies commercializing innovative and disruptive technologies that are developed or manufactured in Colorado. These grants promote the growth and sustainability of advanced industries in the state by driving innovation that strengthens this important part of Colorado’s economy.

“SiNAPTIC Technologies is passionate about serial production and contract manufacturing of technical ceramics to help customers overcome product design issues associated with traditional ceramic manufacturing. Upon the completion of this grant-funded project, we will attract innovators wanting to license our silicon nitride slurry to develop their own medical products for the regulatory benefits offered by the Master File,” said SiNAPTIC’s CEO, Bryan Scheer, MD.

SiNAPTIC Technologies has been awarded $250,000 to conduct biocompatibility testing and process validation activities for submission of an FDA master file for their printable silicon nitride slurry. Another portion of the funds will be used to hire and train three technical staff in Colorado who will be critical to developing the master file and scaling up production.

“Across the state, companies are rethinking existing technologies and inventing new ones within the advanced industries sector. Their success will create good-paying jobs in Colorado and has the potential to change lives across the state and beyond. We are thrilled to be able to support their development and look forward to celebrating future accomplishments,” said OEDIT’s Advanced Industries Senior Manager, Rama Haris.

“SiNAPTIC is comprised of two business divisions, SiNAPTIC Technologies and SiNAPTIC Surgical, with each having a different focus. SiNAPTIC Technologies provides R&D and prototyping through scaled OEM manufacturing, whereas SiNAPTIC Surgical is focused on becoming an FDA registered, fully integrated original medical device producer,” says Hugh Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of SiNAPTIC.

SiNAPTIC Technologies is responding to the numerous requests from OEMs in various industries to provide support in 3D printing services for ceramics – from design, development and prototyping to industrial scale production.

SiNAPTIC’s Grant Coordinator, Kevin Altman expressed that “The SiNAPTIC team has invested and continues to invest so much time and effort to convey the value that ceramic additive manufacturing can offer to domestic industry. I am elated that we are receiving recognition, both for our hard work and for the innovative potential of our printable silicon nitride, through the Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant.”
