Sloyd 2.0: AI tool for 3D models enables export as STL file for 3D printing

The Norwegian 3D design platform Sloyd has released version 2.0, a revised version of its web-based tool. The focus is on simplifying the creative workflow for developers, 3D printing enthusiasts and artists. By using parametric model generation, 3D objects can be created and adapted directly in the browser and exported as STL files – without having to go through traditional CAD software.

At the heart of the platform is the concept of generators, i.e. editable templates that can be customized using sliders and selection options. In the new version, the backend has been redesigned to shorten computing times and enable smoother operation. According to CEO Andreas Eiken, Sloyd wants to “support rather than hinder the creation process”.

The now integrated export function for STL files is particularly relevant for the 3D printing community. In addition, numerous new generators for figures and objects have been added that focus specifically on printable geometries.

Another central component of Sloyd 2.0 is the new image-to-3D module. Users can automatically generate a 3D model based on a single image. This function is aimed at designers who want to create quick prototypes from existing templates. This is supplemented by AI-supported material control: textures can be selected via a text prompt or assigned manually.

The update also removes the previous credit model. Users can now download unlimited models, which makes it easier to use for professional applications and serial designs.
