Software Optimization for Faster 3D Printing: Ulendo VC Reduces Industrial Print Times

Ulendo Technologies, in collaboration with Rev1 Technologies, has developed a software solution that significantly increases the speed and acceleration of FDM 3D printers. The Ulendo VC (Vibration Compensation) software upgrade is specifically optimized for the CreatBot F430 and enables a substantial reduction in print times without compromising the quality of printed components.

A major automotive supplier, who remains anonymous, tested the software as an early adopter and significantly reduced the print time for a batch of nine prototype seat brackets. Under standard conditions, this project would have taken 14 hours and 30 minutes, but with Ulendo VC, the same build was completed in just 6 hours and 15 minutes. This improvement was achieved by increasing the print speed to 150 mm/s and acceleration to 3,000 mm/s², representing up to a fivefold enhancement over the original settings.

“Many of the prototype parts this client builds are quite large and can take 14 to 24 hours to produce. This makes it difficult to fit into working schedules and can lead to longer than ideal development timelines,” says Brenda Jones, Ulendo’s CEO. “Quick turnaround and rapid iteration are essential for their operations.”

“By taking a 14:30 build and knocking it down to 6:15, the client is now able to do their build prep and get the part out on the same day,” added Jones. “It really transforms how they are able to use additive in their R&D process.”

Ulendo VC is based on a patented algorithm that compensates for vibrations in real time. Vibrations are a well-known issue in FDM printers and often cause defects such as ghosting, ringing, and layer shifting. While solutions like “input shaping” may suffice for smaller desktop printers, Ulendo VC provides a more advanced approach for industrial applications. Initial tests indicate that with this software, print speeds of up to 250 mm/s can be achieved without sacrificing quality.

Rev1 Technologies, the exclusive distributor of CreatBot in the U.S., is working with Ulendo to further develop the software for larger printer models.

“As a software only solution, Ulendo VC is incredibly easy for our customers to adopt,” says Ben Hartwig, President of Rev1 Technologies. “For customers in contract manufacturing or using additive in production, this dramatically improves the efficiency and overall profitability of their additive operations.”

Interested companies can obtain the upgrade through Rev1 or learn more about the technology at the RAPID + TCT trade show in Detroit.
