Source3 Raises $ 4 Million in Seed Funding for 3D Content Licensing Platform

Source3, a platform for licensing and distribution of 3D content, has received $ 4 Million in seed funding.

The round was led by Contour Venture Partners and joined by Western Technology Investments, Correlation Ventures, Crosslink Capital, 645 Ventures and further angel investors. Also among the investors is 3D design and software company Autodesk with their Spark Investment Fund.

The NY-based startup, founded about a year ago, is a collaboration of music licensing innovators and 3D printing experts, who had worked for Google and 3D Systems. With their platform they are developing the processes and technologies necessary to monetise 3D content.

Source3 explains in a recent blog post: “We believe that the 3D ecosystem is just at the dawn of a 3D content explosion – new reality capture devices (3D scanning), combined with simplified software and new manufacturing and visualization techniques will utterly transform the way people obtain and interact with 3D content.  At Source3, we are building the platform for the large-scale licensing and distribution of 3D content which these transformational changes will require.”

The funding raised will help Source3 to accelerate development and take on new team members. Patrick Sullivan, CEO and co-founder of Source3 said in a recent press release:
“New 3D capture and manufacturing technologies are rapidly reshaping the way content owners must approach the market. These profound changes represent both a huge opportunity as well as a growing threat to existing routes to market. I am excited to be working on the solution here at Source3.”
