Steakholder Foods: Progress in the commercialization of 3D printed food

Steakholder Foods has made the transition from research to commercialization in the alternative protein market. Through strategic partnerships and initial sales, the company is beginning to expand its position in the industry, while a demonstration center in Israel is bringing the technology closer to potential partners.

In the first half of 2024, Steakholder Foods concluded four strategic partnerships that both validate the company’s technology and lay the foundation for generating sales. Of particular note is the commercial memorandum of understanding with Wyler Farm, a leader in the production of alternative proteins. This agreement includes the supply of the MX200 meat printer and SH-Beef Premix blends for the production of plant-based meat products. In addition, a license and raw material supply agreement has been concluded that enables Wyler Farm to use Steakholder Foods’ products commercially.

Another important cooperation project is the collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan. Together, food products are being developed and marketed based on the proprietary 3D printing technology and the plant-based premixes developed by Steakholder Foods specifically for Taiwanese cuisine. This has been complemented by partnerships with gourmet brand Sherry Herring and frozen food manufacturer Premazon to launch new lines of plant-based fish salads and white fish kebabs.

These strategic alliances have already led to the initiation of revenue streams. In September 2024, Steakholder Foods received its first order from Bondor Foods Ltd. for the supply of the plant-based premixes for the production of white fish and salmon patties. This was followed by an order from Wyler Farm for the SH™-Beef premix blend, which is intended for the launch of a new product line of plant-based meatballs, burgers and minced meat.

The market for alternative proteins is growing rapidly, driven by increasing awareness of health, sustainability and ethical considerations. Steakholder Foods is capitalizing on these trends by using innovative 3D printing technologies to offer sustainable and diverse food solutions. Through a combination of technological innovation and strategic partnerships, the company appears well positioned to capitalize on changing market conditions and meet the demand for alternative protein sources.
