Stratasys Direct and PostProcess Technologies optimize post-processing

Stratasys Direct, the service division of Stratasys, provides on-demand 3D printing, post-processing and finishing services for industries such as aerospace, medical and automotive. At its facility in Tucson, Arizona, the company relies on stereolithography (SLA) and programmable photopolymerization (P3 DLP) for manufacturing.

Stratasys Direct decided to work with PostProcess Technologies to optimize the resin removal process. By implementing the DEMI 4100, DEMI 830 and PLM-403-SUB automated systems, key workflows could be made more efficient. The automated solutions offer a combination of hardware, software-based technology and specialized cleaning agents to ensure consistent results and protect part integrity. The solution is particularly beneficial for complex parts where manual resin removal often leads to inconsistent results and damage.

“We’ve been able to reduce total post-processing time by about 60%. For example, a job that took us 120 minutes to post-process now only takes 45 minutes”, said Sean Schoonmaker, Director, Operations at Stratasys Direct

The fully automatic resin removal enables several parts to be cleaned at the same time and significantly reduces the need for manual intervention. In addition, the use of the non-flammable PLM-403-SUB cleaning agent minimizes the safety risk.

Unlike IPA, this agent produces less fumes, is recyclable and requires less frequent replacement, resulting in cost savings.

The introduction of PostProcess technologies has not only shortened production cycles and reduced the workload of employees, but has also improved the quality and safety of post-processing. Stratasys Direct is thus strengthening its capacities and meeting the industry’s requirements with even greater efficiency and precision.
