Stratasys expands material portfolio: Nylon PA12 GF for industrial applications

Stratasys Direct Manufacturing has expanded its material offering with Nylon PA12 GF, a glass fiber reinforced nylon for Selective Absorption Fusion (SAF) technology. The material is characterized by high stiffness, heat resistance and precise dimensional stability, making it ideal for demanding industrial applications.

With a glass content of 40%, nylon PA12 GF offers high strength and durability. The glass bead reinforcement improves the mechanical properties of the material, particularly its stiffness and heat resistance, and clearly sets it apart from conventional nylons. These properties make it ideal for applications that require both robustness and dimensionally stable precision.

The material achieves a high tensile and flexural modulus, allowing 3D printed components to maintain their structural integrity even under load. This is particularly important for load-bearing applications where resistance to deformation is crucial. The heat deflection temperature of over 100 °C at 264 psi underlines the thermal performance of Nylon PA12 GF, making it suitable for automotive and engineering parts, for example.

Nylon PA12 GF achieves tight tolerances of up to 0.010 inch or 0.002 inch per inch. Compared to conventional Nylon 12, which often shows a shrinkage of 3-4% during printing, the new material ensures consistent results and is ideal for complex designs and precise prototypes.
