Sunlu Filament Dryer E2 in test: Drying and heat treatment

The material expert Sunlu presents the new FilaDryer E2 filament dryer. This advanced version has been specifically designed for technically savvy users aiming to optimize their print results through precise filament drying while also experimenting with annealing processes.

The device comes securely packaged with a well-organized set of components. Included are the FilaDryer E2, a power cable, four PTFE tubes, a heat-resistant tray for annealing, and a user manual.

The FilaDryer E2 stands out with its robust construction and thoughtful details. A sturdy lid and metal rollers ensure safe filament handling without the dryer moving during material withdrawal. Inside, four ports for PTFE tubes offer flexible filament routing to the printer. The semi-transparent plastic housing combines an appealing appearance with practical interior visibility.

Equipped with a powerful 500-watt heating element, the device heats up quickly: it reaches 50°C within 20 minutes and 70°C after 30 minutes—ideal for users looking to start printing without delay. Silicone seals and a magnetic closure system effectively prevent heat and moisture from escaping.

The spacious interior accommodates large filament spools, holding up to two spools weighing 1 or 2 kg or a single spool of 3 kg. It is compatible with spool sizes up to 250 mm in diameter and 153 mm in width, offering versatile usage options.

Operating the FilaDryer E2 is straightforward, thanks to preset profiles for materials like PLA, PETG, and nylon. A single click sets the optimal drying parameters. For custom needs, the touchscreen controller allows additional adjustments, making the device highly flexible.

SUNLU prioritizes safety: an intelligent protection function automatically stops operation in case of overheating and resumes once the device has cooled. Double insulation ensures that the exterior temperature remains below 60°C, even when the internal heat reaches 100°C. This ensures precise drying results and high safety during everyday use.

Annealing

With a maximum operating temperature of 110°C, the FilaDryer E2 is suitable not only for filament drying but also for annealing printed parts. Targeted annealing can significantly enhance material properties, such as impact resistance and durability. This feature is particularly beneficial for components with high demands, such as drone parts, helmets, or screws.

The high operating temperature supports materials like ABS, ASA, and PC, as well as glass- and carbon-fiber-reinforced variants such as PA6-CF or PA12-CF. This makes the FilaDryer E2 a flexible and powerful solution for demanding applications.
