Turbomeca Started Production of 3D Printed Helicopter Engine Parts

The manufacturer of helicopter parts, Turbomeca, opened a 3D printing facility in France to produce fuel injector nozzles for its Arrano helicopter engines.

The company will be using selective laser melting (SLM) technology for the production in their facility in Bordes. This process allows for highly detailed metal objects featuring a layer thickness of up to 100 microns. Currently already operating SLM devices, Turbomeca has plans to install more machines in the coming years, as part of its Future Line program.

“Using additive manufacturing technique, the Arrano fuel-injector nozzle is made from a single piece of material and exhibits advanced injection and cooling functions.”
