Two new special 3D printing filaments: Prusament PP Carbon Fiber and PETG Magnetite 40%

Prusa Research has introduced two new filaments, Prusament PP Carbon Fiber and PETG Magnetite 40%, which are aimed at industrial and scientific applications. These materials are characterized by their specific properties, which make them interesting for a wide range of applications.

Prusament PP Carbon Fiber is based on polypropylene (PP), a plastic known for its chemical resistance. Carbon fibers have been added to the material to improve its printing properties. These reduce the typical warping and improve temperature and chemical resistance. However, the addition results in less flexibility and a slightly increased susceptibility to breakage.

The material is particularly suitable for applications where chemical resistance and low weight are crucial, such as in laboratory and automotive technology. The introduction of a new PP printing plate makes the printing process much easier by ensuring strong adhesion without additional release layers.

The PETG Magnetite 40% contains 40% magnetite powder, which gives the material a higher weight and paramagnetic properties. Unlike conventional magnets, it is not permanently magnetic, but can react magnetically in the presence of a magnetic field.

The filament is suitable for applications such as sensors, switches and electromagnetic shielding. Hobbyists could use it for magnetic puzzles or as a weight material. A hardened nozzle is required for printing, as the abrasive magnetite powder would quickly wear out standard nozzles.

A 650 g spool of PP Carbon Fiber costs EUR 74.99, while PETG Magnetite 40% is available for EUR 49.99 per kilogram. Both filaments are available on the Prusa website and offer specialized solutions for different requirements.
