UltiMaker replaces CloudPrint with Digital Factory

UltiMaker took CloudPrint out of service at the beginning of December. The platform was used to manage 3D printers and print jobs in the cloud. With its discontinuation, the previous connection via CloudPrint will become inactive. Printers will no longer remain connected there.

UltiMaker is positioning UltiMaker Digital Factory as a replacement. The platform is designed to centrally manage printers, projects, and teams. According to the provider, it can be used free of charge, with additional paid tiers available. Features for connecting and managing printers remotely are mentioned. Print files, projects, and submissions can also be organized.

To make the switch, printers must be manually connected to Digital Factory. UltiMaker refers to supporting materials for this. These include a quick start guide for account and printer connection, as well as support articles for setup and troubleshooting. According to UltiMaker, former CloudPrint users can also activate one year of access to a premium tier. This requires filling out a form to initiate the process.

UltiMaker mentions several options for slicing. Digital Factory offers a cloud version of Cura that is designed to work directly in the browser. For offline slicing or advanced options, Cura remains available as a downloadable version. Which version is best depends on the respective workflow, such as team processes or the need for local settings.

There are restrictions regarding printer compatibility. UltiMaker states that the Replicator Z18, Replicator 5th Gen, Replicator Mini, and Replicator Mini+ models are not supported. The Replicator+ receives only limited support and cannot be connected to the network in Digital Factory. For these devices, UltiMaker refers to MakerBot Print for slicing and printer management. For Z18, Mini, and Mini+, MakerBot Print in the legacy version should enable continued operation.
