The European Center for Dispersion Technologies (EZD) and the company Nano Dimension have been recognized by SKZ as “Research Premium Partners 2024.” The award highlights a joint project that resulted in the development of a novel UV-curable material for DLP-based 3D printing. The material, named ATARU, was specifically designed for applications requiring high thermal resistance, mechanical durability, and favorable electrical properties.

The collaboration between Nano Dimension and EZD has been ongoing for several years. Nano Dimension initiated the concept, while EZD conducted the accompanying materials research. The development process included formulation work, additive integration, print testing, and comprehensive analysis of material behavior.

“Only companies that tackle challenges with us and solve them through innovative approaches are considered for Premium Partner status,” said Matthias Ruff, Head of Sales for Education & Research at SKZ in Würzburg. “Together with Nano Dimension, EZD has succeeded in developing a novel material, thereby advancing additive manufacturing in this field. Ultimately, we are jointly driving progress in the plastics industry.”

“We are impressed by EZD’s state-of-the-art equipment and the professional yet flexible collaboration, which has pushed our projects forward efficiently and innovatively,” said Tobias Ott of Nano Dimension. He particularly appreciates the team’s spontaneous and solution-oriented approach, calling it “a real asset for our joint success.”

ATARU offers high thermal stability, low dielectric loss, and excellent impact resistance. These characteristics make it especially well-suited for electronic components, functional prototypes, and heavily loaded plastic parts. Its fine surface finish often eliminates the need for post-processing. According to Ott, the pragmatic collaboration with EZD significantly shortened the development cycle.

“Through active collaboration in research and development and the use of our services, we were able to strengthen and expand our joint activities,” said Dr. Felipe Wolff-Fabris, EZD site director. “Regular exchange and shared insights have brought us closer together and are shaping the future of the plastics industry. That deserves recognition.”

“The collaboration with EZD is defined by excellent technical infrastructure and direct access to expert knowledge, which greatly accelerated our development process,” added Dr. Stefan Schlisske of Nano Dimension. “The cooperative environment and open exchange of ideas were key factors in taking our product from concept to market readiness.”

By aligning materials research with industrial needs, the project resulted in a material that opens new application possibilities in additive manufacturing. The SKZ award highlights the value of collaborative innovation in advancing next-generation polymer technologies.
