V-Concepts: New Academy Aims to Integrate Metal 3D Printing into Industrial Processes

With the founding of V-Concepts, Thomas Viebrans has embarked on a new chapter, combining his many years of experience in industrial prototyping with additive metal manufacturing. After selling his former company, VMR GmbH & Co. KG, Viebrans is now fully dedicated to supporting companies in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on their journey to integrating metal 3D printing into their operations.

Launched in April 2025, the goal of the new innovation academy is to provide hands-on support for companies entering the field of additive metal manufacturing. The focus goes beyond technical training—it also emphasizes the integration of additive processes into existing production workflows.

The key advantages of metal additive manufacturing include geometric freedom and the potential for topology optimization. This enables the creation of functionally optimized components with reduced weight and lower material consumption. Especially in the production of small series and prototypes, these benefits can offer both economic and design-related advantages. However, many companies still lack practical experience and knowledge about the requirements concerning machines, materials, and post-processing.

To address this gap, V-Concepts offers not only workshops and training sessions, but also a training program developed in cooperation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). The academy is supported by partnerships with companies such as Trumpf and Additive Industries. The entire process chain—from design to post-processing—can be demonstrated on-site, providing a realistic and comprehensive introduction to the technology.

With the founding of V-Concepts, Viebrans positions himself as a hands-on facilitator between industrial experience and the future of additive manufacturing.
