Voxelfill: Plugin brings voxel-based filling for higher Z-strength in FDM printing

AIM3D and Create it REAL are launching an early-access phase for Voxelfill, a plugin for the REALvision Pro slicer. The aim is to address the pronounced anisotropy in FDM: while parts in the XY plane often achieve high values, interlayer bonding along the Z-axis remains the weak point. Voxelfill combines additive paths with a fill step integrated into the voxels, guided by principles of injection molding.

Technically, each volume element is first printed conventionally and then internally “injected” to reinforce the interfaces between layers. The providers report that glass-fiber-reinforced PETG (PETG GF30) achieved up to 81 percent of the XY strength along Z in trials. The approach targets more isotropic properties without requiring special hardware; implementation takes place in the slicer as a process strategy. For users, this means existing FDM systems can be extended via REALvision Pro with material- and fiber-optimized paths.

“How can we make advanced features accessible to everyone?” asks Jeremie Gay, CTO and founder of Create it REAL. “By offering REALvision Pro as a subscription-based, standalone slicer with an open plugin platform, we’ve created a fair-priced gateway to innovation. Voxelfill is a perfect example of how powerful features can be put directly into the hands of users.”

Clemens Lieberwirth, CTO of AIM3D, adds: “With Voxelfill, we are taking a long-standing limitation in additive manufacturing and turning it into an opportunity. Working with Create it REAL made it possible to move from idea to accessible software solution quickly, and the results speak for themselves.”

REALvision Pro is already used in industrial environments; the provider cites Meltio, Addman, and 3D Systems among others. The software is available with a 14-day trial and offers tiers from single-seat to enterprise solution. Both companies will be at Formnext (18–21 November 2025); Create-it-REAL founder Gay will speak on 20 November at 11:00 on the Technology Stage about bridging techniques between injection molding and FDM. For users who require Z-strength as a release criterion, Voxelfill should therefore be an evaluable option in the software stack.
