WAAM3D CEO steps down: Filomeno Martina leaves the company after six years

Filomeno Martina has resigned from his position as CEO of WAAM3D. The founder and long-standing managing director left the company for personal reasons, according to his own statements. In addition to stepping down from operational management, he also resigned from his position on the Board of Directors.

Martina played a central role in the development of WAAM3D, which was founded in 2018 after several years of research at Cranfield University. He had studied there himself and was instrumental in the commercialization of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology. Under his leadership, the company grew steadily and completed a successful Series A financing round in 2019. A year later, WAAM3D moved into new headquarters in Milton Keynes and further expanded the team. By 2021, the company had 25 employees, and in 2022 it presented the first RoboWAAM metal printing platform at the TCT 3Sixty trade fair. Further products followed in subsequent years, including the MiniWAAM system and the RoboWAAM XP Cold-Wire Gas Metal Arc System in 2024.

In a personal statement on LinkedIn, Martina emphasized how proud he was of what he had achieved. He referred to the development from a small academic team to a successful company. Despite challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after the first financing round, WAAM3D has made steady progress. Martina will remain associated with the company as a shareholder and is confident about its future development.

The successor at the helm of the company has not yet been announced.
