WAITKUS 360° GmbH is expanding its range of industrial additive manufacturing services with a new high-performance material: PA12 ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). This material was specially developed for use in electronics-sensitive areas and enables the production of ESD-compatible components that are mechanically resilient and electrically conductive at the same time.
At a time when more and more electronic components are being integrated into medical devices, special-purpose vehicles, and industrial systems, protection against electrostatic discharge is becoming increasingly important. Even low voltages can damage sensitive assemblies or impair manufacturing processes. With PA12 ESD, manufactured using the HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) process, WAITKUS 360° offers a reliable and economical solution to meet these challenges.
The new material combines the well-known advantages of the MJF process – short production times, high dimensional accuracy, and reproducible surface quality – with controlled conductivity. This allows components to be manufactured that prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges without compromising mechanical stability or chemical resistance. With a tensile strength of around 48 MPa, an elongation at break of 20 to 25 percent, and a modulus of elasticity of around 1,700 MPa, PA12 ESD meets all requirements for resilient and durable components. The material is also resistant to oils, greases, alcohols, monoethylene glycol, and numerous other media.
Typical areas of application include the manufacture of housings and covers for electronic assemblies, mounting and test fixtures for printed circuit boards, and functional prototypes and series components within electrostatically sensitive production environments. PA12 ESD also impresses in medical technology and special vehicle construction with its high reproducibility and dimensional accuracy, even with complex geometries or small series.
With PA12 ESD, WAITKUS 360° is adding a key technology to its portfolio that takes additive manufacturing to the next level. The material combines design freedom, repeatability, and ESD capability in a single process, creating new opportunities for industries where reliability, functionality, and safety are inextricably linked.
