Wayland Additive brings NeuBeam technology to Formnext 2024

Wayland Additive, a provider of metal 3D printing technology, will be presenting its innovative NeuBeam technology, which is based on the Calibur3 system, at this year’s Formnext trade fair in Frankfurt. With this technology, the company aims to further advance the use of electron beam additive processes in industrial manufacturing and demonstrate how NeuBeam improves production through process stability and flexibility.

NeuBeam technology differs from traditional additive manufacturing methods through the use of a stabilized electron beam specifically designed for production applications.

Peter Hansford, Chief Revenue Officer at Wayland, comments: “The future of AM for production continues to evolve and expand. Working with the team at Wayland, I believe we are now started to fulfil the long-awaited potential of AM with a broader spectrum of metal materials. With NeuBeam, we haven’t just adapted existing technology, we’ve created something entirely new and stable, designed to meet the needs of serious production applications without being limited by the materials.”

Unlike conventional systems that are based on hot build platforms, NeuBeam works with a “hot-part” approach. This means that the parts to be printed are heated, but not the build platform. This significantly reduces residual stresses in the material and makes it easier to remove excess powder. The flexibility of the technology allows users to adjust the temperature and melting strategy to suit individual material requirements.

Hansford continues: “Our early commercial successes are proof that NeuBeam is resonating with customers. Early adopters are working with a truly groundbreaking process, not a repurposed or copied one. NeuBeam offers an open, transparent process, allowing manufacturers to print what they need, rather than being constrained by process limitations.”

In addition to the hardware, Wayland is also showcasing its Active Charge Neutralization (ACN), a technology that further increases process stability and ensures uniform powder morphology. At Formnext, interested parties will have the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of ACN during a presentation on November 20 at 11 a.m. in Hall 12.0. Martyn Hussey, Head of New Technologies at Wayland, will explain the specific features of this technology in detail.

“We’re not interested in delivering black-box solutions,” adds Hansford. “We will be at Formnext to form partnerships and develop tailored solutions for our customers, ensuring they get the best out of metal AM and achieve real production success.”

With NeuBeam technology, Wayland Additive offers an open solution that allows users to flexibly adapt production parameters to their requirements without having to rely on “black box” technology.
