Web app “Skapa” generates free 3D printed accessories for IKEA Skådis system

The new Skapa web application can be used to generate custom-fit 3D models for the IKEA Skådis perforated panel system. The application, available at skapa.build, is aimed at makers who want to print functional accessories for their workshop or workplace. Users can set individual dimensions for width, height and depth and receive a direct preview as well as the appropriate STL file to download.

Technically, Skapa is based on the JavaScript library Three.js, which handles 3D modelling and visualization in the browser. WebGL is used, which enables hardware-accelerated display even on less powerful devices such as older laptops or smartphones. The application reacts to inputs in real time and provides immediate feedback on the resulting geometry.

The generated boxes have hook structures that engage directly with the grid of the Skådis board. They can be immediately imported into slicer software such as PrusaSlicer or Cura and prepared for 3D printing. The generated models are fully parametric and are therefore suitable for both small storage boxes and larger organizational solutions. The offer is supplemented by a GitHub page with the complete source code.
