Web tool for individual 3D printed objects: Lyla Design focuses on user-centered design in the interior sector

With the web-based software “Lyla Design“, a small team of developers wants to simplify access to 3D design. The aim is to give users an intuitive way to design their own furnishing objects – initially with a focus on customizable lampshades. The application combines CAD-like modeling functions with a user-friendly interface that can be operated without prior knowledge.

The software sees itself as a configurator with a high degree of design freedom. The starting point is prefabricated basic shapes that can be adapted in several parameters – such as size, surface, material or structure. Technically, the solution is based on a browser-supported engine that visualizes geometry changes in real time and makes them exportable for 3D printing. STL and OBJ formats are currently planned, with direct dispatch to 3D printing service providers to follow.

In the background, the team is working on linking the user interface with digital manufacturing methods. The long-term plan is to link the platform with mixed reality elements and automated production processes. For example, users will be able to check designs via a VR view or transfer them directly to robot-assisted printing systems. The integration of classic CAD components is also to be further expanded.

Lyla Design is not intended to be a closed system. Rather, the software sees itself as an entry point for individual product design in a market that has so far been heavily geared towards serial production. During development, the team works with designers and 3D printing experts to combine creative freedom with technical feasibility.

The project is currently in the open beta stage. In the future, it will be extended to other product categories – from lights to furniture parts.
