WonderMaker ZR Ultra: 3D printer with four extruders for under 600 US dollars presented on Kickstarter

With the ZR Ultra, the Chinese manufacturer WonderMaker is presenting a 3D printer on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The printer is characterized by an unusual level of equipment in the lower price segment. The 3D printer has four independently operating extruders, enabling multi-material and multi-color printing without wasting material through purge towers.

The print volume is 300 × 240 × 290 mm. This puts the ZR Ultra slightly below its sister model ZR, which is 300 × 300 × 300 mm, but offers significantly more functionality. The maximum printing speed is specified as 600 mm/s, with acceleration of up to 20,000 mm/s². Nozzle diameters from 0.2 to 0.8 mm are supported. The hotend reaches a maximum temperature of 300 °C, the heated print bed up to 100 °C. Standard filaments as well as technical filaments such as PLA, PETG, TPU or ABS can be printed.

The four tool units of the ZR Ultra change automatically to combine colored or different materials. According to the manufacturer, the process is optimized for minimal downtimes and virtually loss-free switching. The print quality is supported by an automatic leveling system, filament monitoring and power failure recovery functions. The print data is transmitted via WLAN and processed using the company’s own Wonderprint-Orca software. The printer is controlled via a 5-inch touch display and Klipper is used as the firmware.

The printer can be optionally upgraded with a camera and additional fan. The starting price is 549 US dollars. The version with just one tool head starts at 399 US dollars. According to the data sheet, both models are equipped with a PEI-coated print bed and 8 GB of internal memory. The Kickstarter campaign starts in April 2025.
