YouTuber develops efficient wind turbine for energy generation and makes 3D models available for download

YouTuber Robert Murray-Smith has developed a novel 3D printing-based system that improves the efficiency of dual-rotor wind turbines. He uses a differential gearbox to combine the different speeds of the two rotors.

Dual-rotor wind turbines can extract more energy from the wind than conventional single rotors. However, the energy extraction from the second rotor leads to power losses. Murray-Smith has now found an approach to solve this challenge.

The system consists of two counter-rotating rotors that are connected to each other via a differential gearbox. This compensates for the different rotational speeds and thus enables more efficient energy generation.

The 3D model of the system is available free of charge on the Thingiverse platform. The YouTuber explains the development in a video:
