YouTuber presents simple 3D-printed LED mini neon signs

3D printing is constantly opening up new possibilities for creative DIY projects. The mini neon signs developed by the YouTube channel Makerverse are a particularly appealing example. This combination of 3D printing and LED technology creates a deceptively real neon effect without using dangerous high voltage or real neon gas.

The manufacturing process is surprisingly straightforward. First, the desired text is created as a DXF file and extruded in a CAD programme. The 3D printing then takes place in two phases. First, a dark outer shell is printed, followed by a light-coloured or translucent core. This is achieved by changing the filament during the printing process. Alternatively, luminescent filament can also be used for the core.

The actual illumination is provided by LEDs that are placed inside the printed object. The combination of the dark exterior with the illuminated core creates the visual impression of a classic neon sign.

Although the project is not particularly technically demanding, its visual impact is impressive. In a video, Makerverse shows the details and instructions for its development.
