Divergent Technologies secures additive manufacturing control technology from Sigma Additive Solutions

Divergent Technologies, parent company of Czinger Vehicles, recently acquired the in-process quality assurance technology suite from Sigma Additive Solutions. This includes all related software and IP assets. The goal of the move is to make DAPS (Divergent Adaptive Production System) more efficient and strengthen IP protection in the area of in-process monitoring.

DAPS, developed by Divergent, is a production system of software and hardware. It is designed to replace traditional design and manufacturing approaches. DAPS uses AI-based generative design software and employs computational methods to create structures and additive manufacturing to materialize those structures. It also includes automated assembly to assemble multi-part units.

The system switches between the production of different structures, such as car bodies and aircraft fuselages, without downtime, according to the company. Highlighted was that the system’s hardware is product agnostic and software defined.

Divergent, a certified Tier 1 supplier, provides industries such as automotive, aerospace and defense with forward-looking products using DAPS. More than seven major automotive customers, including Aston Martin, are part of its customer base, and it has active collaborations with six U.S. government contractors in diverse fields.

By purchasing Sigma’s technology suite, Divergent plans to further deepen its expertise in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The company thus consolidates its position through improved control and monitoring during manufacturing.
