Mechnano presents carbon nanotube technology for additive manufacturing

Mechnano has trademarked its proprietary process that eliminates clumped and matted carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and singulates, disperses and functionalizes CNT dispersions, resulting in increased electrical and mechanical performance in the company’s additive manufacturing (AM) masterbatches and materials.

“We are excited to bring D’FuncTM to the AM industry!” said Mechnano President Bryce Keeler.

D’Func, protected by more than 130 patents, solves problems caused by dispersions of clumped CNTs in materials. Such dispersions are mechanically inferior to base formulas, leading to defective parts or production stoppages. D’Func dispersions, on the other hand, improve the mechanical properties of AM materials.

In ESD applications, clumped CNTs leave insulating pockets that repel charges and create lightning rod effects that can damage electronics. They also contain residual metals from the CNT generation process that cause further electrical and mechanical failures.

“Mechnano’s D’Func dispersions are by nature clean and are the answer for today’s increasingly stringent requirements for true static dissipation by AM fabricated parts from resins, powders, pellets, and beyond,” says Keeler. “D’Func provides Nano-Uniform ESD protection throughout the part, regardless of the process, which is why it is becoming the industry standard for AM providers who want consistent, reliable, Nano-Uniform ESD properties. Dirty tubes are less expensive, but they won’t protect sensitive electronics. When you need ESD in your AM materials, make sure you have D’Func.”

The name “D’Func” comes from Mechnano’s research and development lab, jokingly called “Funkytown.” Despite the humorous naming, Keeler emphasizes the seriousness of developing new solutions that use Mechnano’s D’Func technology.

D’Func helps clearly delineate Mechnano’s intellectual property and research and development advances, keeping the company at the forefront of nanotechnology solutions for AM materials. Other suppliers cannot offer nano-uniformity without Mechnano’s patented discoveries. Contact Mechnano to request a print of your part with the appropriate D’Func materials.
