Rahul Prasad is the new CTO at 3D sand printing platform CASTFAST

The 3D sand printing platform CASTFAST has brought Rahul Prasad onto the team as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Prasad took up the new position at the Mainz-based start-up in January, after five years at Monitizer, the Munich-based IIoT business of the Norican Group, where he was most recently Head of AI & IoT.

CASTFAST was spun out of the iron foundry Römheld & Moelle at the end of last year after successfully developing a technology platform for the foundry’s 3D sand printing production.

The idea: to radically transform and improve the purchasing of castings by combining 3D sand printing (fast mould production without a model) and process digitization, so that buyers can order high-quality castings quickly online, with instant quotes and fast order processing.

The ambition of the CASTFAST team is to integrate a large number of foundries into the platform so that customers can easily find the right supplier from a large selection of suppliers.

Rahul Prasad on the new role: “CASTFAST is at an incredibly exciting stage. The team has built and validated the process; orders are coming in through the platform and keeping two 3D sand printers busy. Now we want to scale this up quickly so that buyers can get the casting they need, when they need it – and benefit from a technically superior process to boot. Regardless of whether it’s iron, steel or aluminum casting.”

“It’s my job as CTO to make the process as seamless and automated as possible, and to make the platform even stronger with new features. Everything that previously bothered buyers about the casting supplier search – the lack of flexibility, the slow preparation of quotations, the poor predictability – we are solving all of that in one fell swoop. This is a huge opportunity for medium-sized foundries, as we give them access to a better process and new customers. With CASTFAST, we want to make foundries successful and at the same time bring momentum to the entire industry.”
